  • Sparking situational interest

    Why?

It is important to “wake up” students situational interest for the topic of the course. First, to get students to direct their attention towards the content of the course and, second, to get the students to search for and connect possible points of personal interest with the course topics This enables the development of a more long term interest that is beneficial for learning.

How?

The teacher can utilize in this kind of situation Flinga’s hyperlink-function, which can be used to link different materials to the session, for example videos and articles. In addition to the hyperlinks, the teacher can download pictures to the background of the Flinga-wall, which can be used in multiple ways to awake for instance in this case situational interest.

Pro Tip!

This step can also be implemented beforehand: students can watch the video on their own and post a reaction comments to the Flinga- session (these comments can be further assessed in the first meeting). (This type of working is common in Flipped classroom -approach)
